Home Birth

“Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth”

Marcie Macari

Our Journey Begins with Prenatal Care

Our intial intake starts with:

  • Review health and pregnancy history

  • In-house blood work

  • Schedule ultrasounds as needed

  • Establish due dates

  • Review informed consents

  • Contract

  • Financial paperwork

We see you once per month in early pregnancy and more frequently as you are further along. Prenatal visits are important for so many reasons. It is our time to connect, dive deep into your questions, check on baby’s growth and your continued health. We schedule an hour for each visit to ensure we never feel rushed. Our care follows the standard schedule of visits and prenatal testing that are offered in more conventional settings.

Even for those who choose hospital birth, prenatal care with a midwife can enhance your experience of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Please reach out to learn more about the midwifery model of prenatal care and how I can serve you to prepare for birth and postpartum.

I am easily reachable, even after office hours, to answer questions and address concerns. I am guaranteed on call for your birth at 37 weeks.

Birth With A Midwife

Our practice focuses on home birth, often it feels so right to give birth in your own safe place. You are in charge and we are your guests.

You are encouraged to call the midwife once labor starts. We will determine when active labor has begun and I will be with you from active labor through birth and postpartum. It is my job to check on you and baby to ensure labor is well tolerated and progress is steady. It is up to you to determine how much hands on support or privacy you desire, we will follow your lead and respond to your needs. We encourage the birthing person to be up and moving as much as possible, eating and drinking to preserve energy. We can help provide a birthing tub for you to labor in as the water can offer pain relief.

  • We will help you find your best birthing position, and support you and your partner to help catch the baby if desired.

  • We will help get breastfeeding established and ensure you are well cared for as your body recovers from the work of birth.

  • We stay at your home about 2-6 hours after the birth, monitoring your vitals, cleaning up and making sure you are feeling confident.

  • The best part of a home birth is getting tucked into bed when the work is done!

What you can expect during

Postpartum with a Midwife

My favorite part of community based midwifery care is how we pamper you postpartum!

We come see you at home between 24-36 hours after the birth, mid week for extra concerns and breastfeeding support, and return to your home at 1 and 2 weeks after the birth.

These home visits are a special time of connection and tender support. Office visits resume at 4 and 6 weeks postpartum. We offer all of the state recommended newborn screenings, and monitor baby’s growth and your recovery.
