Somatic Experiencing (SE)
Animals are wired to experience stressful situations and then work themselves out of this state. As humans, we have a more difficult time realizing when it is safe to let go, as our complicated brains hold on to these moments. We can get stuck in a stress response, and over the years this stress becomes part of our identity, and how we are conditioned to be in the world. Our society has normalized being in a stressful state, so it’s harder to notice when we are suffering, and even more difficult to know what to do about it.
Somatic Experiencing is an alternative to talk therapy, which can cause us to relive our trauma without offering a true, body centered solution for moving the stress to completion. In an SE session we work together in a grounded partnership to explore how stress has taken a seat in your body, and notice the calm that has been there all along, speaking with a quieter voice.
Because of her own journeys of self discovery, Dani’s work has always been trauma informed. Her study of Somatic Experiencing has brought more depth and hope to her practice of bringing comfort to those who suffer with the effects of trauma in their lives.
